Editorial & Publication Policies

Editorial Policy

The Canadian Review of Artificial Intelligence, Law & Society (CRAIL) is an independent Canadian interdisciplinary academic journal devoted to the legal, social, institutional, ethical and philosophical implications of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

CRAIL is committed to academic independence, intellectual rigor, transparency and meaningful human responsibility in scholarly research and publication.

Peer Review Policy

Scholarly submissions are subject to editorial assessment and, where appropriate, independent peer review by qualified specialists in the relevant field.

Peer review evaluates the originality, methodological soundness, clarity and scholarly relevance of submitted work. Final publication decisions remain with the Editorial Office.

Publication Ethics

Authors must submit original work and remain responsible for the accuracy, integrity and lawful use of all materials included in their manuscripts.

Plagiarism, fabricated or falsified sources, undisclosed conflicts of interest and material misrepresentation are incompatible with CRAIL publication standards.

AI Use & Disclosure Policy

CRAIL permits the use of artificial intelligence tools for research assistance, drafting support, language editing, data processing and other legitimate scholarly purposes.

Artificial intelligence systems may not be listed as authors. Human authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, verification and scholarly or legal consequences of all submitted content.

Where AI tools have materially contributed to the preparation of a manuscript, authors must disclose such use in an appropriate statement.

All citations, quotations, factual assertions and source references generated or assisted by AI must be independently verified by the author before submission.

Authorship & Responsibility

Authorship requires human intellectual responsibility. Each listed author must have made a meaningful contribution to the work and must accept responsibility for the integrity of the published article.

Responsibility for scholarly judgment, source verification and final approval may not be delegated to an automated system.

Corrections & Retractions

CRAIL may publish corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern or retractions when necessary to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

Authors are expected to notify the Editorial Office promptly if they discover a material error in their published work.

Copyright & Licensing

Unless otherwise stated, copyright remains with the author or other lawful rights holder.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for third-party material where authorization is required. Specific licensing terms may be indicated on individual articles or issues.
